Description
Nestled in the foothills of the rugged San Gabriel Mountains just a short drive north of the bustling metropolis of downtown Los Angeles, is an oasis of tranquility called Descanso Gardens. "Descanso is the Spanish word meaning a place of repose: the perfect name for this botanical garden. This painting depicts the Camellia Forest on a rainy day in the spring, when the forest floor is ablaze with the jewel-like blooms of ruby red and delicate pink azaleas. I loved the contrast of the black and white birch tree that seems to glow against the verdant canopy of taller camellias and native California oaks int he distance.
